When Repair Stops Making Sense
Money spent resetting block over a failed base buys you the same failure again. Three things end the repair conversation: the base has settled under most of the run, the wall has rotated rather than tipped, or there is no drainage stone anywhere behind it. At that point the cheapest wall is the one built once.
Tear-Out
A dry-stacked wall comes down by hand from the cap course, unit by unit, sorted as it goes. Sound block stacks on pallets for reuse and the broken units go in the trailer. Timber walls come out with a machine, deadmen and all. Poured and mortared walls get broken up and loaded out. Spoil that will not go back behind the new wall leaves with us.
Staged and Full Rebuilds
A long run does not always come down at once. Where one bay has moved and the rest sits straight on a solid base, we rebuild that bay and tie the new work into the standing courses on both sides. Where the whole line has lost its base, staging costs more than doing it together. We tell you which situation the wall is in before you commit.

Is it possible to replace a retaining wall?
Yes, and it is ordinary work. The old wall comes apart from the top down, the hill behind it gets cut back, and a compacted gravel base goes in below grade. Then the new wall goes up with drainage stone, a pipe run to daylight, and grid where the height calls for it. Most replacements finish inside a week for a normal residential run.
Do I have to buy all new block?
Usually not. Segmental block is concrete and does not wear out, so units that are not cracked or spalled go straight back into the new wall. Caps and cut pieces get replaced more often than field units. What you are paying for in a rebuild is the machine time, the excavation, the base, the stone, the pipe, the grid, and the crew.
Do you replace poured concrete and masonry walls?
We do. A cracked poured wall or a mortared block wall gets broken out and hauled off, and the footing comes with it when it has settled or split. From there you can go back in kind with a new footing, drainage, and weeps built into the plan, or convert the line to segmental block, which moves with the ground instead of fighting it. Which one makes sense depends on the height, the surcharge above, and what the wall ties into at each end.
What does my yard look like during a rebuild?
Rough, for a few days. A machine needs a path to the wall, so a lawn strip gets driven on and plywood goes down where it helps. Spoil from the excavation stacks nearby, and what will not go back gets hauled away. Plants in the work zone get dug and heeled in ahead of the tear-out where they are worth saving. We finish grade, seed or sod the disturbed strip, and clean the hard surfaces before we leave.
